San Francisco II: Deborah Madison!

I recently heard Deborah Madison speak at Omnivore Books in San Francisco, CA. She just came out with her new book, Seasonal Fruit Desserts from Orchard, Farm and Market. She shared food combinations, which she called ‘seasonal companions’, such as persimmons with walnut or hazelnut oil, and goat cheese; or poaching your pears with a little butter in the pan and brown sugar and cardamom. It’s summertime at the Farmer’s Market, and after hearing Deborah’s advice, I’ve been making sure to smell for fresh, wholesome deliciousness in the plums, nectarines, strawberries and peaches before I buy them. Deborah is the author of Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone, Local Flavors, Cooking and Eating from America’s Farmers Markets and What We Eat When We Eat Alone, and the founding chef of Greens Restaurant in San Francisco.
